Mitsui Chemicals Announces Provision of Manufacturing Technology to India's ONGC Petro additions Limited

Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. (Toshikazu Tanaka, President & CEO) announced that it will provide manufacturing technology for high-density polyethylene (HDPE) to India's ONGC Petro additions Limited (“OPaL”, P.K. Johri, CEO).

Engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning work of the new plant will be handled by Samsung Engineering Co., Ltd. (Ki-Soek Park, President & CEO).

OPaL is a joint venture company of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (A K Hazarika, Chairman & Managing Director). The current HDPE plant will be at the downstream unit of the Mega Petrochemical project which OPaL is currently constructing in Dahej, Gujarat, India.

Mitsui Chemicals' proprietary HDPE manufacturing technology enables production of high quality HDPE and the process has been highly evaluated on the global market. The current OPaL project brings the total annual production capacity in India (including two other plants) using our HDPE manufacturing technology to 860,000 tons or globally to 6.2 million tons per year.

Mitsui Chemicals positions HDPE and polypropylene manufacturing technology licensing as a core business. The Company will continue to develop technology to sharpen its competitive edge to allow further expansion of its licensing operations.
