Mitsui Chemicals extends heartfelt sympathy and sincerest apologies to all persons affected by the April 22, 2012 explosion and fire at Mitsui Chemicals Iwakuni-Ohtake Works.

Mitsui Chemicals announced resumption of operations at the cymene plant of the Iwakuni-Ohtake Works which were suspended following the accident.

Production of cymene at substitute facilities of the Ichihara Works, which commenced in September 2012, has been terminated. The Iwakuni-Ohtake Works will be responsible for all future production of cymene.

With commencement of cymene production at the Iwakuni-Ohtake Works, all production has resumed with the exception of resorcinol from which the Company withdrew in December 2012.

By implementing all Fundamental Safety Measures, Mitsui Chemicals will continue its ongoing efforts to assure safe operations at all its facilities and the sustainment of product supply chains.
