Tianjin Cosmo Polyurethane Becomes the First Company to Receive SMBC’s China Environmental Assessment Loan

Tianjin Cosmo Polyurethane Co., Ltd. (President: Mitsugu Kita; “TCPC”), a Chinese subsidiary of Mitsui Chemicals & SKC Polyurethanes Inc. (Co-CEOs: Ki Don Won & Shingo Shibata; Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. 50% / SKC Co., Ltd. 50%), received a “Platinum” ranking from SMBC China and became the first company to receive the newly launched SMBC China Environmental Assessment Loan of the Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (China) Limited (President: Toshiyuki Tatsuta; “SMBCCN”), a wholly owned subsidiary of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (President & CEO: Takeshi Kunibe; “SMBC”).
The new SMBC China Environment Assessment Loan, which supports environmental-friendly activities of companies in China, was jointly developed by SMBCCN and Ernst & Young China. Financing services are provided with reference to assessment results of a customer’s Environmental Management System, which is conducted in accordance to criteria complying with environmental regulations in China.
TCPC, under an integrated environmental management system, received a “Platinum” ranking as a company which proactively implements environment and sustainability (“E&S”) initiatives derived from evaluated E&S opportunities/risks, in alignment to the corporate vision/mission statement. 1.TCPC established and operates a management structure in accordance with ISO14001 requirements and places priority on environmental compliance and risk management. The company has created an Environmental Policy that clearly indicates that environmental preservation is a priority issue.
2.TCPC works to promote environmental targets for air emission, wastewater discharge, and waste generation.
3.TCPC discloses environmental information on the Mitsui Chemicals Group website and the Tianjin Economic Technology Development Area website. In addition, the company actively works to improve employee awareness on environmental protection through training programs and provides environmental management requirements for suppliers to improve the overall environmental management of its supply chain while collaborating with its stakeholders.
