Tokyo, July 1, 2024 - Niigata University (President: Tatsuo Ushiki), AGC Inc. (President: Yoshinori Hirai), Nippon Telegraph and Telephone East Corporation (President: Naoki Shibutani) and Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. (President & CEO: Osamu Hashimoto) jointly established a Consortium on the Safety Culture Assessment on July 1, 2024.
■About the Safety Culture Assessment
This diagnostic method* allows you to assess and visualize the safety culture of plants with large-scale facilities, primarily in the petroleum and chemical industries. Questionnaires based on an 8-axis model of safety culture are surveyed to on-site employees at manufacturing sites, while protecting the anonymity of respondents. Based on the results of the feedback, companies can compare their safety culture to industry averages, understand the actual safety culture at each manufacturing site, and work to improve their safety culture.
*This method was developed by a team led by Professor Kenichi Takano, Graduate School of System Design and Management, Keio University (currently, Research Advisor, System Design and Management Research Institute, Keio University) and Dr. Akira Tose, Faculty of Engineering, Niigata University since 2009.
■Purpose of the Consortium
The aim of the consortium is to contribute to the prevention of accidents and disasters by improving the safety culture of the participating companies. The Consortium also aims for the evolution and development of the safety culture assessment, with a view to adapting it to diverse industries and building an educational system for sustainable diagnosis and research.
