Dr. Hiroko Okazaki Receives Best Thesis Award from Japan Society for Occupational Health

Mitsui Chemicals Inc. (Tokyo: 4183; President & CEO: Tsutomu Tannowa) announced that on May 14th, Dr. Hiroko Okazaki, the company’s industrial physician, was awarded the Best Thesis Award by the Japan Society for Occupational Health for her paper on the company’s weight loss program based on visceral fat measurements and its Web-based evaluation.

The weight loss support program, which involved 150 employee volunteers, is an ongoing program targeting improvement of employee health and wellness. Using web programs and employing assistance of external medical facilities, the program addressed individual needs and characteristics such as participant age groups.

The study divided participants into controlled groups with health guidance and without health guidance and compared visceral fat differences and loss. The award recognized the significance of this study which was based on scientifically valid and objective data and highly evaluated the comparative assessment of the control groups.
