Mitsui Chemicals Becomes First Japanese Company to Receive AICM Responsible Care Chairman’s Award

Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. (Tokyo: 4183; President & CEO: Tsutomu Tannowa) was recently recognized for its ongoing responsible care (RC) activities*1 in China, receiving the RC Chairman’s Award from the Association of International Chemical Manufacturers (AICM). The award ceremony took place on April 18.
Having previously received the RC Merit Award back-to-back in 2015 and 2017, Mitsui Chemicals now becomes the first Japanese company to receive the Chairman’s Award*2, which is given in recognition of companies that have contributed to China’s chemical industry and been engaged in ongoing RC activities for at least five years.
The Mitsui Chemicals Group has rolled out RC activities to its subsidiaries and affiliates both in Japan and overseas, including in China. The Group here has sought to safeguard the environment, safety, quality and health while striving to engage in ongoing dialogue and communication with society.
The Group’s subsidiaries and affiliates in the Chinese region undertake steadfast safety activities, such as engagement in risk forecasting enhancements and work environment improvements, and continue to report the safety and environmental data that serve as indicators of their performance in these endeavors. Other activities include holding chemistry laboratory classes at Project Hope elementary school in Anhui Province and co-sponsoring a chemical engineering design competition for Chinese university students.
Mitsui Chemicals received the RC Chairman’s Award in high praise of its Group-wide contribution to society and the sustainable development of China’s chemical industry. Mitsui Chemicals will continue to promote RC activities throughout the Group.
