Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. (Tokyo: 4183; President & CEO: HASHIMOTO Osamu) is pleased to announce that it received the top Gold Award at the 2021 Gan-Ally Declaration Awards on November 29. Following the company’s success in the 2019 awards, this year marks the third time Mitsui Chemicals has received the honor.
The Gan Ally Declaration Awards is an award scheme created by Gan-Ally-Bu (founders: IWASE Daisuke and KONO Satoko), a private sector project that focuses on tackling problems faced by people who continue to work while undergoing cancer treatment. The awards are aimed at encouraging workplaces to be more accommodating of employees who have cancer, thereby creating a society where people can feel comfortable continuing to work while receiving treatment. The scheme recognizes outstanding initiatives by companies that have declared themselves to be allies of cancer sufferers and made a commitment to providing a workplace that enables such individuals to carry on working through their treatment. Entrants are required to submit details of specific initiatives for consideration by the project’s founders, who hope that sharing the know-how of such organizations will result in a society where cancer patients can readily continue to work during their course of treatment.
Mitsui Chemicals was given the Gold Award this year in recognition of a number of endeavors, including the revision of its remote working system, the introduction of a program of shorter working hours and other systems enabling workers to pursue treatment and work at the same time. The company was also highly praised for its efforts to promote understanding of health screening and treatment by organizing lectures about breast cancer, thereby creating opportunities for staff to learn about different types of breast cancer screening, self-examination methods and the support available in the workplace.
Going forward, Mitsui Chemicals will continue to actively pursue diversity and inclusion as it strives to create a company in which all employees can put their all into their work.
