Mitsui Chemicals to Advance Work Style Reform by Moving Head Office
Bringing together the power of each and every employee in a coordinated fashion to make the office space a place of new ideas

Mitsui Chemicals, Inc.
Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. (Tokyo: 4183; President & CEO: HASHIMOTO Osamu) today announced plans to relocate its Head Office to Tokyo Midtown Yaesu (Chuo-ku, Tokyo) in March 2023.
The Mitsui Chemicals Group intends to develop businesses in new growth sectors as it works to achieve its VISION 2030 Long-Term Business Plan. With this requiring efforts beyond the Group’s conventional framework, it will be important for each and every employee to remain attentive and bolster good communication with those both inside and outside the Group.
Even before the spread of COVID-19, Mitsui Chemicals had been pursuing new work styles through efforts such as the introduction of a telework system and a reduction of overtime hours. Then more recently, Phase II of this initiative – which is aimed at improving output quality and employee engagement by enabling more diverse work styles – has seen Mitsui Chemicals roll out various policies to let employees select their work styles themselves. This has included adopting casual dress, making the company’s expanded telework system permanent, introducing a system for side jobs and leveraging open calls to provide more career opportunities. Then in addition, a new results evaluation system that encourages employees to aim high is being adopted in order to help achieve the VISION 2030 Long-Term Business Plan announced last year.
By relocating its Head Office, Mitsui Chemicals hopes to give itself a more flexible venue* for implementing new work styles. The company will then leverage this to make its stakeholders feel even more strongly than before that Mitsui Chemicals is their partner in resolving business or social issues.
The new building that will house the Head Office is slated to be fitted with high-speed communications equipment to help accelerate the pursuit of a digital transformation. Further, the building itself is set to have strong BCP functionality, allowing it to exhibit excellent Head Office capabilities via business continuity.
* An office space where employees do not feel limited to their own division but, rather, can go beyond organizational walls and proactively communicate with others both inside and outside the company
