Mitsui Chemicals to Exhibit With JUNICHIRO YOKOTA STUDIO at DESIGNART TOKYO 2022

Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. (Tokyo: 4183; President & CEO: HASHIMOTO Osamu) is set to join forces with JUNICHIRO YOKOTA STUDIO for a collaborative exhibit at the forthcoming DESIGNART TOKYO 2022 event. Using the carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic (CFRTP) TAFNEX™*1 developed by Mitsui Chemicals, JUNICHIRO YOKOTA STUDIO*2 has designed benches and stools that will be on display from October 21 to 30 at a venue in Tokyo’s Omotesando district. Visitors to the venue will be able to sit on the benches and stools to experience the features of TAFNEX™, including its functional performance and aesthetic appeal. Mitsui Chemicals extends a warm invitation to the public to come and see for themselves how this new material feels.

What is TAFNEX™?

TAFNEX™ is a unidirectional tape (UD tape) made from a carbon fiber and polypropylene composite. In addition to combining the lightness, hardness and strength of carbon fiber with the lightness, water resistance and chemical resistance of polypropylene, TAFNEX™ offers outstanding moldability.

The items to be exhibited are made from TAFNEX™ chips molded to produce a luxurious finish reminiscent of marble and black quartzite. The result is a product that offers not merely excellent functionality but also a strong sense of design.
