Mitsui Chemicals, Inc.
Taiwan Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. (Taiwan; President: KIMURA Takao), a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. (Tokyo: 4183; President & CEO: HASHIMOTO Osamu), today announced that it has acquired certification as of August 2024 under the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS system for certifying sustainable products.
ISCC PLUS is a certification system that guarantees that sustainable raw materials such as biomass are properly managed in the supply chain. The certification primarily covers recycled and biomass-derived raw materials and products, which are sold all around the world.
With this certification, Taiwan Mitsui Chemicals will be able to sell ISCC PLUS-certified products manufactured with biomass materials under the mass balance system*1, and has already launched sales of biomass-based acetone as of January 2025. This capability will be used to propel joint efforts with Taiwanese companies for the exploration of a biomass supply chain.
Going forward, the Mitsui Chemicals Group hopes to expand the social implementation of biomass-based products under the mass balance system, and will continue working toward the acquisition of ISCC PLUS certification to contribute to further advances in society’s use of biomass.
Company receiving certification | Certified products | Scope of certification | Certification acquired in |
---|---|---|---|
Taiwan Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. | All products*2 | Trader | August 2024 |
*The Mitsui Chemicals Group pledges its commitment to complying with the ISCC PLUS requirements, in accordance with the latest ISCC regulations, and to avoiding the practice of double counting the Group’s environmental contributions.
*1 The mass balance system is an ISCC PLUS-recognized material control method that assigns sustainability to a portion of products made from a mixture of sustainable and non-sustainable raw materials in proportion to the percentage of sustainable raw materials input.
*2 Since Taiwan Mitsui Chemicals has received certification as a trader, its certification is not limited to any particular products, allowing the company to handle all products with ISCC PLUS certification.
