Urethane resin (polyurethane)

Polyurethane resins are a general term for polymeric compounds that contain urethane linkages. Their main applications include coatings, adhesives, elastomeric materials for casting and construction applications, as well as flexible and rigid foams. Mitsui Chemicals offers a broad range of polyurethane-related products tailored to specific applications, including polyurethane resins for coatings, waterborne polyurethanes, polyurethane resins for casting, polyurethane resins for construction materials, polyols and isocyanates for flexible and rigid foams, and specialty isocyanates.

What are urethane resins (polyurethanes) ?

Urethane resins are high-molecular compounds with urethane groups as shown below, and are obtained by the reactions of compounds with isocyanate groups (-NCO) and compounds with hydroxyl groups.

Urethane resin (polyurethane)

Urethane resins have the following characteristics;

  • High rubber elasticity and mechanical strength
  • Excellent abrasion resistance, oil resistance, and cold resistance
  • Tunable properties through control of polyurethane hard and soft segments
  • Flexible foam offers excellent cushioning and can be molded into various shapes
  • Rigid foam provides superior thermal insulation performance
Urethane resin (characteristics)

Mitsui Chemicals Group provides various isocyanates including TDI (tolylene diisocyanate) as compounds with isocyanate groups, and urethane raw materials such as polyether polyol as compounds with hydroxyl groups. We also develop secondary products from these urethane raw materials into a wide variety of polyurethane resin products for coatings, adhesives, and other applications.

ACTCOL® LR-00

Polyol for a low-resilience polyurethane foam that provides excellent skin feel and a comfortable touch, contributing to high-quality sleep.

By optimizing the glass transition temperature, this polyol maintains its inherent low-resilience properties even at low temperatures in winter. It is a high-performance polyol for polyurethane foam with outstanding pressure distribution characteristics.

It can be used in bedding applications such as mattresses and pillows, as well as in household polyurethane foam products.

ACTCOL® for CASE Applications

A polyol used as a polyurethane raw material for CASE applications (Coatings, Adhesives, Sealants, and Elastomers).

Leveraging proprietary catalyst technology, this product was developed as a low-monool, high-molecular-weight type specifically for CASE applications.

Due to its low content of monool impurities and sharp molecular weight distribution, it enables enhanced performance across various applications compared with conventional products.

High-Performance MDI for NVH Applications

Reducing noise, vibration, and harshness through the performance of Polyurethane materials. Our high-performance NVH polyurethane system not only creates a comfortable interior space and suppresses exterior noise, but also contributes to improved driving performance and safety.
