Water-based polyurethane resins (Polyurethane Dispersion, PUD)

Water-based polyurethane resins (Polyurethane Dispersion,  PUD)  are polyurethane polymers dispersed in water. Controlling the hard and soft segments enables various coating properties such as flexibility and adhesiveness.

In general, water-based polyurethane resins show the following characteristics ;

  • Low viscosity and high concentration
  • Room temperature drying
  • Low VOC, low toxicity, and low flammability
  • Excellent adhesiveness and durability, and can be used for various applications

Mitsui Chemicals offers water-based polyurethane resins that meet various requirements of our customers, by utilizing these characteristics of waterbased urethane resins and our technologies of controling hard and soft segments.

One-pack type (Takelac W)

TAKELAC W series are water-based polyurethane resin made by dispersing urethane elastomer in water. Since they are non-hazardous, there is no risk of environmental pollution or fires caused by ignition.

They can be classified into self-emulsification or forced emulsification type, and also into anionic or nonionic type according to which hydrophilic groups are introduced.

We have a wide lineup of grades to choose from according to hardness and adhesiveness.

One-pack Self-crosslinking type (Takelac WS)

Takelac WS series are self-crosslinking water-based polyurethane resin which forms a crosslinked structure when water evaporates, creating a coat with excellent water resistance and coating properties. We have a wide lineup of grades to choose from according to the hardness.

Gas barrier type (Takelac WPB)

TAKELAC™ WPB series are water-based polyurethane resin which has excellent oxygen barrier property. It is non chlorine based polymer. In comparison with vinyl alcohol based resin,  the humidity dependence of the oxygen barrier property is remarkable. It is printable and good lamination on coating side.
