Mitsui Chemicals to Host the “Professor Jean-Marie Lehn Symposium on Advanced Materials at Mitsui Chemicals”

April 23, 2008

Mitsui Chemicals, Inc.

Mitsui Chemicals (“MCI”) announces its sponsorship of a symposium on October 15, 2008, named after Professor Jean-Marie Lehn (Université Louis Pasteur and Collège de France, France) the “Professor Jean-Marie Lehn Symposium on Advanced Materials at Mitsui Chemicals” with the attendance of the professor.

Professor Lehn, the 1987 Nobel Prize Laureate in Chemistry, is an advocator of “Supramolecular Chemistry.” Supramolecular Chemistry is an innovative concept which utilizes the weaker non-covalent interactions between molecules to bring about new functions. It is acknowledged worldwide as a predominant method to create new, nonconventional advanced materials or catalysts. This symposium is extending an invitation to high profile professors who are globally known for their specialty in the advanced materials field, and look forward to their discussion on current trends to create next generation performance materials and their expectations for such materials. A plenary lecture will be given by Professor Lehn.

MCI has held five international symposiums so far, including “The Mitsui Chemicals International Symposium on Catalysis Science,” to establish a global science network with global researchers and to contribute to society. This symposium is an international symposium targeting the advanced materials field which is held following the prestigious symposiums. One of them is an international symposium (France, 2004) hosted by ISIS (Institut de Science et d'Ingénierie Supramoléculaires) of Université Louis Pasteur where Professor Lehn supervises, while the other is a symposium co-hosted with the Singaporean government (Singapore, 2006). MCI expects that this symposium will serve as a forum of extensive interchange among researchers in the world and an excellent opportunity for creating innovation supporting the next generation.
