Mitsui Chemicals to Accept Applications for the
2014 Mitsui Chemicals Catalysis Science Award

Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. (Toshikazu Tanaka, President & CEO) announced that it will begin accepting applications for the “2014 Mitsui Chemicals Catalysis Science Award” from September 2nd 2013.
The “Mitsui Chemicals Catalysis Science Award” was established in 2004 to support the sustainable development of chemistry and the chemical industry and has been presented 4 times to a total of 15 researchers in recognition of outstanding achievements in the field of catalysis science. (see attachment for eligibility.)
Meanwhile the Mitsui Chemicals International Symposiums on Catalysis Science, which have been held a total of five times since 2003 in concurrence with the Awards, will not be held. The symposiums attended by a total of approximately 7000 persons from around the world, and in which 51 world-class researchers including 11 Nobel Prize in Chemistry Laureates gave presentations and lectures, served to deepen understanding and communication among researchers in the area of catalyst science. Mitsui Chemicals has decided that the Symposiums have accomplished their mission of “contributing to the development of a more prosperous society”. Accordingly, acceptance speeches and commemorative lectures of award recipients will be made at a venue to be announced later.
Mitsui Chemicals will continue to present the “Mitsui Chemicals Catalysis Science Award” to encourage catalyst research among young and mid-level researchers whereby contributing to welfare and better living standards of people around the world through the benefits catalyst science.

1. “Mitsui Chemicals Catalysis Science Award”
| (1) Research field: | Polymerization catalysts, fine synthesis catalysts and other catalysts contributing to environmental protection |
| (2) Eligibility: | Up to one researcher (aged 45 years or younger on April 1, 2013) belonging to institutions of higher learning or public research with the outstanding achievements |
| (3) Prize: | Commemorative plaque and cash prize of 5 million yen |
2. “Mitsui Chemicals Catalysis Science Award of Encouragement”
| (1) Research field: | Same as the “Mitsui Chemicals Catalysis Science Award” |
| (2) Eligibility: | Up to two researchers (aged 35 years or younger on April 1, 2013) with original achievements |
| (3) Prize: | Commemorative plaque and cash prize of 1 million yen |
※ Applicants should apply for either the “2014 Mitsui Chemicals Catalysis Science Award” or the “2014 Mitsui Chemicals Catalysis Science Award of Encouragement” postmarked no later than December 27th 2013.
